Mini, slim and regular side by side
VELO uses a mini portion; Ace, NOIS and XQS use slims. Three of these four brands are 4 mg per pouch. The practical difference is can count – NOIS holds 30 pouches per can for CA$14.00, while VELO, Ace and XQS hold 20 for the same price, so NOIS works out to CA$0.47 a pouch versus CA$0.70.
Among the 4 mg pouches, the minis are more concentrated. VELO Dark Cherry Mini and VELO Simply Spearmint Mini are 4 mg in a 0.42 g pouch (9.5 mg/g); NOIS and XQS slims are 4 mg in 0.5 g (8.0 mg/g). Choose the VELO minis for the smallest pouch in this set, or NOIS for the most pouches per can.
Ace Cool Mint Light is the only 3 mg pouch among these brands, in a 0.5 g slim at 6.0 mg/g. It costs the same CA$0.70 a pouch as the 4 mg VELO and XQS cans, so you get a lower per-pouch dose for the same per-pouch price. Pick it if you want less nicotine per pouch than the others here.
Why format is separate from strength
Format and strength are separate numbers on the can. VELO Bright Spearmint Mini and VELO Dark Cherry Mini are both minis and both 4 mg per pouch, yet Bright Spearmint uses a 0.5 g pouch (8.0 mg/g) while Dark Cherry uses a 0.42 g pouch (9.5 mg/g). 'Mini' describes size, not weight or concentration.
Product names like 'Light' don't tell you the format either. NOIS Cool Strong Light is a slim at 4 mg; Ace Cool Mint Light is a slim at 3 mg. Neither is a mini. Read the format and the mg, not the name.
Per-pouch strength also doesn't set the can total. Ace Cool Mint Light carries 60 mg in a can of 20, VELO Bright Spearmint Mini carries 80 mg in a can of 20, and NOIS Blueberry ICE Light carries 120 mg in a can of 30. Match the per-pouch mg to your preference and the can count to your budget.
What a smaller pouch changes in practice
Sting is not a function of size. In our tasting data, VELO Sour Lime Mini and VELO Dark Cherry Mini are both 4 mg minis, but Sour Lime rates 5 out of 10 for sting while Dark Cherry rates 2. On the slim side, NOIS Extreme Light rates 9 – the highest sting rating among the pouches we've listed here – while NOIS Cherry ICE Light rates 2 and XQS Black Cherry Light Slim rates 3. If you want a gentle hit, a mini won't guarantee it; choose by sting rating, or step down to ACE Cool Mint Light at 3 mg.
Flavour strength is separate from format too. The slim NOIS Cool Strong Light rates mint 7, while the minis VELO Simply Spearmint and Bright Spearmint rate mint 5 and 6. Format alone isn't a reliable predictor of taste; that's why we list sting and flavour ratings per product. Size, strength, sting and taste are four independent decisions – pick what matters to you on each before you order.
Choosing a format
Not all minis are the same size. VELO Dark Cherry Mini and Simply Spearmint Mini use a 0.42 g pouch, while VELO Bright Spearmint Mini is 0.5 g — the same weight as every Ace, NOIS and XQS slim in this set. If you want the smallest pouch, the 0.42 g minis are the pick; Bright Spearmint is a mini in name only.
That weight difference drives concentration. Bright Spearmint is 4 mg in 0.5 g (8.0 mg/g); the 0.42 g minis are 9.5 mg/g. So format doesn't predict dose density — pouch weights across our shelf range from 0.4 g to 0.8 g. Read the per-pouch strength and weight on each product page, not the mini/slim label.
Choose the 0.42 g VELO minis for the smallest, most concentrated 4 mg option. Choose Bright Spearmint for a slightly larger pouch at 8.0 mg/g — same weight as the Ace, NOIS and XQS slims, so then pick by flavour and can size.
Common questions
Are mini pouches weaker?
Not by definition. Mini describes the pouch's size; the milligram figure on the can describes its nicotine, and the two are labelled separately.
Which format is the most discreet?
Mini, then slim. Regular portions are the widest of the three.
Do mini pouches last as long?
They hold less material, so for the same milligram figure they tend to be spent sooner than a slim pouch.
Ace, NOIS, VELO and XQS are made by four different manufacturers — Ministry of Snus, NOIS.WORLD, BAT, and XQS international AB — and the flavour ranges don't overlap much. NOIS is the largest lineup in this group, with six slim options from blueberry to wintergreen. XQS has five, VELO four minis, and Ace one mint. If you want variety within a single brand, NOIS gives you the most choices.
