White Nicotine Pouches: A Practical Brand-by-Brand Guide

White nicotine pouches vary in strength, format and price more than the packaging suggests. We compare the five brands on our shelf — Ace, Après, NOIS, VELO and XQS — with what published guides say about the wider market.

What White Nicotine Pouches Are

White nicotine pouches are small, white pouches placed between the upper lip and gum. They contain nicotine — either synthetic or tobacco-derived — along with plant-based filler (often cellulose), food-grade flavourings, sweeteners and pH stabilisers. No tobacco leaf is involved, and nicotine is released through the lining of the mouth without smoke, vapour or spitting.

This makes them distinct from snus, the moist smokeless tobacco product that has been used in Scandinavia for over 200 years. Snus contains ground tobacco, salt, water and flavourings; pouches do not. The two look similar and are used the same way, which is why pouches are sometimes described as tobacco-free snus. In the UK and parts of Europe they are also called 'nicopods'.

Pouches are sold in three common formats. Mini pouches are compact and discreet, typically lasting 20–30 minutes under the lip. Slim pouches are longer, sit more ergonomically, and usually run 30–60 minutes. Refill cans hold a bulk quantity for frequent users.

Strength: Reading the Numbers on the Can

Nicotine strength is labelled in milligrams per pouch. Published guides commonly divide the market into light (2–4 mg), normal (6 mg), strong (8 mg), extra strong (9–12 mg), and extreme (30 mg and above). One Nordic strength scale uses a slightly different spread: light 4–6 mg, normal 7–9 mg, strong 10–15 mg, extra strong 16 mg and up. The categories overlap but are not identical, so the per-gram concentration is a useful second figure: a 4 mg pouch can be 8.0 mg/g or 9.5 mg/g depending on pouch weight.

Starting-strength advice also differs. One published guide recommends beginners start at 2–4 mg, light smokers (under 10 cigarettes a day) at 2–3 mg, and moderate smokers (10–20 a day) at 4–6 mg. Another guide puts moderate users at 6–12 mg and heavier smokers at 16–25 mg. Both agree on the direction: start low and work up, because too much nicotine can cause nausea and dizziness.

Duration figures vary between sources as well — 30–60 minutes in one guide, 20–60 in another — with mini formats at the lower end of the range. Moisture content matters: wetter pouches release faster, drier pouches build more slowly. Published notes also say that very high-strength pouches can release quickly and tail off sooner, while mid-strength pouches are more likely to hold a steady level.

Brands in Our Catalogue

Our own shelf carries five brands. Ace, made by Ministry of Snus, is the simplest line: every can we stock is Cool Mint Light, a 3 mg slim pouch with 20 pouches per can at CA$14. Each pouch weighs 0.5 g, which comes to 6.0 mg of nicotine per gram; each can holds 10 g of material and 60 mg of nicotine. Our tasting data rates the sting 5 out of 10 and the mint 8 out of 10.

Après, produced by Après Nicotine AB and BAT, is the largest range we stock, with 13 flavours: berry, mint, peach, licorice, citrus, banana, coffee, elderflower, guava, mixed fruits and passionfruit. Strengths run from 3.2 mg to 4 mg. The 4 mg Light pouches weigh 0.55 g (7.3 mg/g), while the 3.2 mg Mini pouches weigh 0.4 g (8.0 mg/g). The light fruit and mint slims hold 11 g of material and 80 mg of nicotine per 20-pouch can; the minis hold 8 g and 64 mg. All cans are CA$14, or CA$0.70 per pouch. Tasting notes give the Zero line fruit or mint scores of 7–8 out of 10; Ice Tea Peach reads mint 2 and fruit 7.

NOIS, from NOIS.WORLD, offers the lowest per-pouch cost in our catalogue. Every can is 4 mg in a 0.5 g slim pouch (8.0 mg/g), with 30 pouches per can — 15 g of material and 120 mg of nicotine, all for CA$14 (CA$0.47 per pouch). The six flavours are Blueberry ICE, Cherry ICE, Cool Strong, Extreme, Mango ICE and Wintergreen. Tasting data spans a wide range: Extreme scores sting 9 out of 10, while Cherry ICE scores sting 2 and fruit 8.

VELO is made by BAT. We stock four minis at 4 mg each, all CA$14 for 20 pouches (CA$0.70 per pouch). Pouch weight varies within the brand: Bright Spearmint Mini is 0.5 g (8.0 mg/g) in a 10 g can, while Dark Cherry, Simply Spearmint and Sour Lime are 0.42 g (9.5 mg/g) in 8.4 g cans. Every VELO can we stock carries 80 mg of nicotine. Our tasting data scores the spearmints at mint 5–6 with sting 4, Dark Cherry at fruit 8 with sting 2, and Sour Lime at fruit 7 with sting 5.

XQS, from XQS international AB, is another uniform line: five slim flavours at 4 mg per pouch, with 20 pouches per can at CA$14 (CA$0.70 per pouch). Each pouch is 0.5 g (8.0 mg/g), each can 10 g and 80 mg of nicotine. The flavours are Black Cherry, Blueberry Mint, Citrus Cooling, Tropical and Wintergreen. Tasting ratings put fruit scores at 7–8 out of 10, with sting scores from 3 to 6.

Brands You Will See Elsewhere

Beyond our shelf, the best-known name is ZYN, widely cited as the largest-selling nicotine pouch brand. Published comparisons describe ZYN as consistent and widely available. Against Rogue, reviewers say ZYN flavours are more balanced, while Rogue offers slightly higher strength and more intense — sometimes sweeter or more artificial-tasting — profiles like Wintergreen and Peppermint. Against On!, ZYN is again called more consistent, but On! pouches are about 40% smaller and go up to 8 mg.

White Fox is positioned as a premium brand with all-white, tobacco-free pouches; manufacturers highlight that white pouches do not discolour teeth. KILLA is a Nordic line with strengths of 8 mg in its minis and 11.2 mg in full-size cans, covering Cold Mint, Banana Ice, Watermelon, Strawberry Lychee and Bubblegum. Published tasting notes call KILLA's watermelon ripe rather than candy-sweet, its bubblegum deliberately confectionery and divisive, and its pricing flat across the range.

Other brands appear regularly in round-ups. ICE leans on a freeze profile, with flavours like Freeze, Crispy Peppermint, Tropical Breeze and Berry Frost, plus Cold Mint, Bubblegum, Apple and Watermelon. POP is described as a cola-cherry profile; PABLO as a frosted-ice brand with Ice Mint, Energy Drink, Tropical, mango, coconut, pineapple and passionfruit. GREATEST is noted for bold flavours and a clean experience. Kick markets itself to experienced users wanting strong pouches; Syx focuses on flavour variety and limited seasonal editions, such as tropical blends in summer and spiced options in winter. Rogue, meanwhile, is expected to introduce smaller portable tins.

Published guides also mention Iceberg and Killa for intense cooling, Cuba for tropical flavours, 77 for modern fruit, and Nordic Spirit and LOOP for unconventional profiles. Siberia and Pablo are consistently named as the strongest pouches on the market, with published figures at 50 mg per pouch or above; these are intended for experienced users only. Detailed product reviews add colour: ZYN Black Cherry Mini is a 6 mg mini with a cherry note reported to last 30–40 minutes; ZYN Coffee is said to read roasted rather than artificial; Zeus Cherry Blossom is a floral cherry at 8 mg; Zeus Bubble Gum is a candy-style 8 mg; Greatest Arctic Edition is a 9 mg extra-strong mint; and 51 Watermelon is a light 4 mg fruit starter.

Flavour Families

Mint is the dominant flavour family across the market. In our own data, Ace Cool Mint Light and Aprés Zero #2 Mint both score mint 8 out of 10, NOIS Cool Strong scores 7, XQS Wintergreen 6, and the VELO spearmints 5–6. Published guides separate traditional mint (ZYN, VELO, White Fox) from intense cooling (Iceberg, Killa), and note that some mint pouches read menthol-forward while others carry a sweet edge.

Fruit is the fastest-growing category, popular with new users. Our shelves show how wide it runs: blueberry, cherry, mango, peach, licorice, banana, guava, passionfruit and mixed fruit all appear, alone or blended with mint. Tasting scores in our catalogue rate fruit-heavy flavours like NOIS Cherry ICE, VELO Dark Cherry, XQS Tropical and Aprés Blueberry at 7–8 out of 10, typically with low sting.

Specialty flavours fill the rest of the category: coffee (Aprés Mochaccino, ZYN Coffee), floral and candy profiles (Zeus Cherry Blossom, KILLA Bubblegum, POP cola-cherry), licorice (Aprés Raspberry Liqorice), and novelty blends from Nordic Spirit and LOOP. Published tasting notes suggest these appeal mainly to users looking beyond mint and fruit, and that flavour longevity varies: a strong berry blend may hold near 45 minutes, while a citrus mint fades around 30.

Costs, Formats and Practical Choices

Price per can means little until divided by pouches. In our catalogue, Ace, Après, VELO and XQS all work out to CA$0.70 per pouch. NOIS undercuts them at CA$0.47 per pouch because its 30-pouch can holds 15 g of material at the same CA$14 price. Published guides note that some premium brands justify higher prices with consistent manufacturing and flavour development, and that some brands price all strengths equally; KILLA is cited as an example.

The other practical difference is pouch size. Mini formats — VELO's entire line, Aprés No.13 Mochaccino Mini — sit more discreetly under the lip and run shorter. Slim pouches, such as Ace, NOIS and the rest of Après, offer a longer, more ergonomic fit and generally longer retention. Refill cans suit daily users who go through multiple pouches a day.

We ship from British Columbia across Canada, and orders over CA$150 ship free. For a first order, the practical move is to choose one strength tier and a flavour family you already know, then try a single can before committing to a multi-can order.

Choosing a First Can

New users should stay at 2–4 mg. If you smoke occasionally, the same range applies; if you smoke regularly, one published guide suggests 4–6 mg for 10–20 cigarettes a day, while another extends that to 12 mg. Every guide we have seen warns against starting with strong or extra-strong pouches.

Flavour choice is simpler. Mint is the safe default because it is familiar and widely available; light fruit is the other common starting point. Our tasting data can steer you: Ace Cool Mint and Aprés Mint both score mint 8 out of 10, VELO Dark Cherry is a gentle fruit option at sting 2 out of 10, and NOIS Extreme at sting 9 out of 10 is clearly not a starter.

Experienced users have more headroom. If 6 mg no longer registers, KILLA's 11.2 mg range is a documented step up, and the strongest products on the market — Siberia, Pablo — are explicitly for high-tolerance users. Some published guidance suggests mixing strengths across the day: a lighter mini in the morning and evening, a stronger pouch mid-day. That strategy works just as well across the brands we carry if you buy a couple of different cans.

Nicotine pouches vs snus: what actually differs

Snus and nicotine pouches share a format and nothing else. Snus is ground tobacco leaf, portioned moist, and it is a tobacco product. An all-white nicotine pouch replaces the leaf with plant fibre and adds nicotine separately, which is why it is described as tobacco-free. The pouch, the placement and the duration are the same; the contents are not.

Can you eat or drink with a nicotine pouch in?

A pouch sits under the upper lip and stays there while you talk, drink and eat. It is not chewed and it is not swallowed. Hot drinks are the one thing that noticeably changes the experience, because warmth moves the flavour release along faster.

Mint, menthol and 'freeze': what the words on the can mean

Mint, menthol and the various 'ice', 'freeze' and 'frost' names describe different things. Mint is the flavour of the plant; menthol is the compound that produces the cold sensation and can be added without mint flavour at all; 'freeze' and 'ice' are brand names for a higher cooling load rather than a defined level. Two cans both labelled 'ice mint' can differ substantially.
