What is inside each one

Colour, staining and the can

The can itself shows a bigger difference than the label. A NOIS can holds 15 g of material; ACE and XQS cans hold 10 g, and most VELO minis hold only 8.4 g (the Bright Spearmint mini is 10 g). So NOIS is the fullest can on the shelf, and VELO's smaller pouches leave the lightest can.

Total nicotine per can follows the pouch count, not just the per-pouch strength. ACE Cool Mint Light is 3 mg in 20 pouches, so 60 mg per can; XQS and VELO cans are 4 mg in 20, so 80 mg; and every NOIS can is 4 mg in 30, so 120 mg. If you want the most nicotine in a single can, NOIS doubles an ACE can.

Tasting scores separate the cans once they're open. On fruit, NOIS Cherry ICE Light and VELO Dark Cherry Mini both rate 8/10. Sting runs its own scale even at the same strength: NOIS Cherry ICE Light is a 2/10, while NOIS Extreme Light is a 9/10, so two 4 mg NOIS cans can feel completely different.

How each one behaves in the mouth

The sting is the first thing you notice, and it doesn't track with the label strength. NOIS Cool Strong Light and XQS Black Cherry Light Slim are both 4 mg, but the NOIS rates sting 6/10 with a heavy mint 7/10, while the XQS rates sting 3/10, mint 2/10 and fruit 7/10. One lands as a cold burn; the other as a soft, sweet pouch. The same split runs through the rest of the range: XQS Wintergreen Light is sting 5, mint 6, while VELO Sour Lime Mini is sting 5, fruit 7 with no mint score at all.

If you want an icy mint mouthfeel, NOIS Cool Strong Light and XQS Wintergreen Light are the strongest picks — both rate mint 6 or 7 with a sting in the 5-6 range. If you want fruit to dominate, XQS Tropical Light (sting 4, mint 2, fruit 8) and NOIS Mango ICE Light (sting 5, mint 3, fruit 6) keep the mint in the background, and VELO Sour Lime Mini (sting 5, fruit 7) delivers citrus tang without any mint overhang. Strength labelling, and why the numbers do not transfer

The strength number printed on a can — milligrams per pouch — is the only one most people compare, but it is not a universal scale. On our shelf, label strengths span every band we carry, while measured pouch weights run from 0.4 g to 0.8 g. The result is that a 4 mg pouch like KILLA Niclab Flash Light delivers only 5.0 mg/g, while other 4 mg pouches are nearly twice as concentrated. The same number means different things in different cans.

Product names make this worse. "Light" is attached to 3 mg and 4 mg pouches alike, and NOIS sells a "Cool Strong Light" — a name that contradicts itself. You cannot read strength from a name, and you cannot carry the per-pouch number from one brand to another. The per-gram concentration is the comparable figure, but it is rarely printed on the can; you have to work it out from the pouch weight.

When you switch brands, use the pouch weight as your guide. A heavier pouch at the same 4 mg will deliver a gentler concentration; a lighter one will hit harder. If you want the same experience as a familiar can, match pouch weight first, not the label number.

Which one you are probably looking for

Decide what matters most. If you're new and want a mild start, ACE is the only brand in this group that steps down from the usual strength — go with the mint for a gentle first can. If you want a can that stretches further, NOIS puts more pouches in each can than the others, so it's the value pick. If you want the smallest pouch we carry, VELO's minis are the most discreet, and the Sour Lime is a clean citrus option.

XQS is the balanced choice: a standard slim with a flavour list that includes blueberry mint and tropical. It's not as value-dense as NOIS nor as tiny as VELO, but it's a dependable middle.

So: ACE for a gentle hit, NOIS for more pouches, VELO for mini format, XQS for a straightforward slim with flavour options. That's the whole decision.
